Maths
Monday
We are going to focus on Algebra for the next two weeks. We haven't learnt about this yet so it will be new for everyone! We are going take this slowly at the beginning so that we are sure about what it is.
Try to do as much as you can but don't worry. If you find it tricky then just do the bits you can do :) A little bit is better than nothing.
Let's start off with linear number sequences and input machines...
A linear number sequence is a sequence of numbers whose difference between each number is the same.
Focus: to generate and describe linear number sequences.
To solve one step function machine problems.
Quickly complete the number sequences below in your head.
Complete the Mathletics tasks assigned to you.
Imagine the numbers being inputted into a function machine...what would go in and what would come out? Complete the questions in your arithmetic book.
For example:
Q1 The operation is x 4
If the input is 2 then the output will be 8 because 2 x 4 = 8
2 goes IN and 8 comes OUT.
Top Tip! You will have to use the inverse to find the input if you are given the output.
Tuesday
Focus: to use two step function machines.
Watch the video below. Stop the video at 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
Complete the function machines in your arithmetic book.
Look at the reasoning problem and solve it!
Wednesday
Focus: to use simple algebraic inputs.
Watch the introduction to algebra video below.
Watch the Corbett Maths video again from yesterday. Continue to watch from 3 minutes and listen carefully to how an input is written as an algebraic expression. Watch up to just before 4 minutes.
Now look at these function machines below.
Complete the Mathletics task assigned to you.
Thursday
Focus: to become familiar with algebraic expressions.
Watch the video from yesterday again.
Complete the quick task below:
Look at this reasoning problem...
Friday
Focus: write simple algebraic equations
Complete the tasks below.
White = 1
Red = 2
Light Green = 3
Pink = 4 ...and so on...
Orange = 10
For example... R + B = O
